Texas Possum

Hey Nanc, did he look like this? I photographed this one about a year ago... He just sat there on the fence. I probably could have touched him... but then he might have 'played possum'... I'm not afraid of mammals... just insects. Look at his cute little pink hands...

  1. I have Texas possums too; probably because I live in Texas. :)

I think they're cute, but my dogs don't agree with me.

  5. I was clearing a vine from the roof while standing on a ladder and uncovered a possom's nest! Scared the crap out of me. But he just slowly walked away, half asleep and no doubt annoyed I uncovered his bedding.

    Wasn't Pogo a possum?

  6. I really, really dislike possums! They stink, they do have nasty tempers, and when they invade your attic, it's a pain to get rid of them. They eat the citrus on the trees and, as far as I'm concerned, have few if any redeeming characteristics. They drive out native small animals and can be quite aggressive, they also can carry rabies!
    And they are ugly!

  8. sidenote on the opossum - nancpop tells me they're the only animal who can die of heartbreak, that they mate for life in the wild and if their mate dies, so they go. he had one as a pet he raised from a baby when he was young.

but, i'm with tmw - they are nasty in the wild and will make a mess of things.

  11. We get them in Florida too. My sister had one get into her attic space & it gave birth! She kept finding babies which were really cute, but a huge nuisance to clear out.

  13. My computer spelling is so awful. I have to practice. What I had meant to say is that I have a stuffed ANIMAL of one. Is anial even a word?
