He made the list in an attempt to improve his character, and practice them each as time went by. Here they are:

1. Temperance: Eat not to dullness and drink not to elevation.

2. Silence: Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself. Avoid trifling conversation.

3. Order: Let all your things have their places. Let each part of your business have its time.

4. Resolution: Resolve to perform what you ought. Perform without fail what you resolve.

5. Frugality: Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself: i.e. Waste nothing.

6. Industry: Lose no time. Be always employed in something useful. Cut off all unnecessary actions.

7. Sincerity: Use no hurtful deceit. Think innocently and justly; and, if you speak, speak accordingly.

8. Justice: Wrong none, by doing injuries or omitting the benefits that are your duty.

9. Moderation: Avoid extremes. Forebear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve.

10. Cleanliness: Tolerate no uncleanness in body, clothes or habitation.

11. Chastity: Rarely use venery but for health or offspring; Never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another's peace or reputation.

12. Tranquility: Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable.

13. Humility: Imitate Jesus and Socrates.

What a great world it could be if everyone tried to practice the 13 virtues!Eyeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01720460918202738868noreply@blogger.com64tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085440735501181631.post-36849647217263370492010-01-13T17:24:00.002-06:002010-01-13T17:32:02.302-06:00The Blind Side
As my husband can tell you, I really, really do not like football. It's sooooo borrrinnggg.... Even when the Cowboys are playing in the Super Bowl, I try to watch, but after about 15 minutes I find myself wandering off to do something in the house. I just don't "get it". So, when we saw this movie "The Blind Side", I was pleasantly surprised. It was such a good movie, that afterwards we were talking about it and he said "The Ravens have a game coming up..." I actually wanted to watch it - just to see Michael Oher! My husband did say something about the Ravens being a "defensive team" or some such thing... What do I know? Now of course the proof is in the pudding. My husband is betting I'll last 10 minutes... He may be right, but we'll see. I know this, Michael Oher and his family are incredible people and the movie was terrific!Eyeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01720460918202738868noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085440735501181631.post-36090860790366954912010-01-11T06:14:00.001-06:002010-01-11T06:17:27.292-06:0028th Ammendment? Got this in an email today...
Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution:

"Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States".

Sounds good to me!Eyeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01720460918202738868noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085440735501181631.post-8124016078055827912010-01-07T10:12:00.000-06:002010-01-07T10:13:22.461-06:00GI Squirrel<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 303px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEjzlGfgRcgthlCnk1Sa-Ss-P23NH1sJCRdUGDZBs7O0npQ2UK16vv5NW1eV6xunfdyOsI50clqy5MUaTH08hXE2WKFq4v6X6OAhJn9bipWZhFVFxr03WPMmZugZ87PmR2Z8byjqDPR1lP/s400/GI+Squirrel.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424031692052078530" />Eyeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01720460918202738868noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085440735501181631.post-29801300636716159922010-01-07T10:11:00.000-06:002010-01-07T10:12:38.466-06:00This guy is tall!!!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 357px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8K5vRgUh5DUINQXsCEKcWBtzlhdgGUwgojk_Xyc4xixxWcp2jw_ZllUsp_4i6B_xFaD-NN2qoO6Hk1T6hshMnsyrQ1HXYqkH3ITpvOYEGDa0p80tw3jpPof0tB_lSEXYGE3qLbID-0CoG/s400/Tall+Iraqi.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424031493292214162" />Eyeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01720460918202738868noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085440735501181631.post-89670849185448600072010-01-01T16:11:00.001-06:002010-01-01T16:20:17.207-06:00HAPPY NEW YEAR!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjBori0ABOoh4Hh589VIt95K0dGuA7QB0IR15B8FKTPM1YTzGlD29slzmpBCo0EjPQH0mGElS_u7ctb7ovG-Tw901lHz2qpoaPMDLPwjqcXSThQ_ggjO-xsjTSbjBX0VT4apUtF_5lM05e/s400/021001+dogs+4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5421899704611617042" />Eyeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01720460918202738868noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085440735501181631.post-29637769444588370122010-01-01T16:06:00.002-06:002010-01-01T16:11:23.229-06:00The Coconut Miracle
After reading "Going Rogue", I am now reading "The Coconut Miracle". What a great book - very interesting, and well written. I can now see why she scares the "left" so much. She actually gets things done. Most people who go into politics, and most people on the "left" are just plain lazy. The thought that they might actually have to work rather than pick their nose, drives them crazy. Look at BO vacationing over in Hawaii for weeks on end, even after several terrorist attacks. Lazy, lazy, lazy...Eyeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01720460918202738868noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085440735501181631.post-3896787809711513902010-01-01T15:56:00.002-06:002010-01-01T16:02:28.207-06:00Kindle 2
I bought the Kindle 2 for Christmas and I really, really love it! I was thinking about the Nook also, from Barnes and Noble, but since they couldn't get it out until after Christmas, I didn't want to wait any longer. Also, since the Kindle has been out a lot longer, I figured all the bugs would have been worked out of it. It is totally awesome being able to order books for only $9.99 or less - many free. The keyboard is also really nice to add notes for quick future reference. When I'm done reading, I just "delete" the book and it stays up on the Amazon website, sort of like a book shelf. No more books stacking up all over the house! Yeah! One of the white geese had broken wings, so all 4 geese stayed in Texas through the hot Texas summer. I felt sorry for them, especially the Canadian Geese, because they should have flown north in the spring. Actually, I thought the white geese were probably the females and the black/gray geese were the males.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 139px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizYpwGVV2wNbp6ZXHywuvDjCP_1uYhWxlWZYZt-ognnEV-aUuFiApR049maiKL6S9WCBhR1anZTEKA5rr7rs9dLhM4KP-J0CLTxnWMli7ChHPEEVQ3dGuEoiecKPX_X4JZC1Rd0fnBonN4/s400/090821+Canadian+Geese+4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5373167152693903986" />
The next year they had 3 chicks. All the chicks grew up with the same black/gray markings of the Canadian Geese. Again, that summer they all stayed in Texas. This spring they had 7 chicks! They also grew up to become Canadian Geese. We now have a flock of 12 Canadian Geese and 2 white geese at our neighborhood lake. It wasn't until recently that I figured out that the white geese are just some sort of domestic breed. The Canadian Geese became friends with the domestic birds and won't leave them. I wonder if anyone has ever heard of such a strange thing. Martin (Massapoag Pond Obs.)
Explanation: Adrift 1,500 light-years away in one of the night sky's most recognizable constellations, the glowing Orion Nebula and the dark Horsehead Nebula are contrasting cosmic vistas. They appear in opposite corners of this stunning mosaic taken with a digital camera attached to a small telescope. The magnificent emission region, the Orion Nebula (aka M42), lies at the upper right of the picture. Immediately to its left is a prominent bluish reflection nebula sometimes called the Running Man. The Horsehead nebula appears as a dark cloud, a small silhouette notched against the long red glow at the lower left. Alnitak is the easternmost star in Orion's belt and is seen as the brightest star to the left of the Horsehead. Below Alnitak is the Flame Nebula, with clouds of bright emission and dramatic dark dust lanes. Pervasive tendrils of glowing hydrogen gas are easily traced throughout the region in this deep field image of the same region.Eyeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01720460918202738868noreply@blogger.com54tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085440735501181631.post-34539742635805516082009-03-10T06:39:00.002-06:002009-03-10T06:42:01.556-06:00IRS letter...

This is pretty funny. But the International Space Station (ISS) orbits at nearly the same height as many auroras, sometimes passing over them, and sometimes right through them. Still, the auroral electron and proton streams pose no direct danger to the ISS. In 2003, ISS Science Officer Don Pettit captured the green aurora, pictured above in a digitally sharpened image. From orbit, Pettit reported that changing auroras appeared to crawl around like giant green amoebas. Over 300 kilometers below, the Manicouagan Impact Crater can be seen in northern Canada, planet Earth.Eyeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01720460918202738868noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085440735501181631.post-82036391025411122262009-02-01T08:49:00.002-06:002009-02-01T08:55:42.789-06:00Milky Way<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 244px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiesP2n54rB2jvp_lqJXRX7_4YHe58HXOePrF65dhHwX75JerxaJpgbxXSp7OCEwjHgsFzX1lsTYMydDOW8FjT08oomDBJoci906zwqUc_lw4WS2q3Sy7cFi3oujGcPW2y7eT29r8Rm3pzz/s400/maunakea_pacholka_big.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297842694484814242" /> The Milky Way Over Mauna Kea
Credit & Copyright: Wally Pacholka (TWAN)
Explanation: Have you ever seen the band of our Milky Way Galaxy? In a clear sky from a dark location at the right time, a faint band of light becomes visible across the sky. Soon after your eyes become dark adapted, you might spot the band for the first time. It may then become obvious. Then spectacular. One reason for a growing astonishment might be the realization that this fuzzy swath contains billions of stars and is the disk of our very own spiral galaxy. Since we are inside this disk, the band appears to encircle the Earth. Visible in the above image, high above in the night sky, the band of the Milky Way Galaxy arcs. The bright spot just below the band is the planet Jupiter. In the foreground lies the moonlit caldera of the volcano Haleakala, located on the island of Maui in Hawaii, USA. A close look near the horizon will reveal light clouds and the dark but enormous Mauna Kea volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. If you have never seen the Milky Way band or recognized the planet Jupiter, this year may be your chance. Because 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy, an opportunity to look through a window that peers deep into the universe may be coming to a location near you.Eyeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01720460918202738868noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085440735501181631.post-23297986429768710372009-01-11T14:23:00.001-06:002009-01-11T14:33:51.489-06:00Saturn<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 198px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2ummb-lkvCd9lvc8EYFKMBA-1qM_IFyIKMj5DXNvIMVuoMtPgc17_V-su6xj4hi62yBmCSXxOHxnLNVuJRzWTdYCumkFV64UoSOh3fnYM3D91x4XkcMoviOFVPyG4sL8Rezg8g7Hc7wUi/s400/newrings_cassini_big.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5290135706278412946" /> Credit: Cassini Imaging Team, SSI, JPL, ESA, NASA
Explanation: In the shadow of Saturn, unexpected wonders appear. The robotic Cassini spacecraft now orbiting Saturn recently drifted in giant planet's shadow for about 12 hours and looked back toward the eclipsed Sun. Cassini saw a view unlike any other. First, the night side of Saturn is seen to be partly lit by light reflected from its own majestic ring system. Next, the rings themselves appear dark when silhouetted against Saturn, but quite bright when viewed away from Saturn and slightly scattering sunlight, in the above exaggerated color image. Saturn's rings light up so much that new rings were discovered, although they are hard to see in the above image. Visible in spectacular detail, however, is Saturn's E ring, the ring created by the newly discovered ice-fountains of the moon Enceladus, and the outermost ring visible above. Far in the distance, visible on the image left just above the bright main rings, is the almost ignorable pale blue dot of Earth.Eyeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01720460918202738868noreply@blogger.com4
