Eyes,
I'm a day late in wishing you my felicitaions for a peaceful, prosperous, and healthy new year.

Well, better late than never.

Late? Uh, I'm chronically out of time. Still, late or no, I wish you all the best. The best? It's written in the stars, it's written in the mind, it's written across windswept field as the grass bows down in patterns. I recall so much over the course of so many years now, life kind of forming something like geometric patterns across the decades of experience, life moving like the constellations toward a simple clarity. But not yet there. More life to come and epiphanies.

My dog and I would run the deer-trails through the forest in the mountains, leaping and soaring over wind-falls, landing silent in the pine needles, twisting and turning on the paths and not a sign of us till we made our way and revealed ourselves at the place I loved to stand to fish on the bank, and then only the slight plop of the fly revealing us.

I'm old and heavy now, a bit bent from the years of adventures and the loss of dogs and lovers and friends, estranged from trout and leafy branches over-hanging the water; but now there is our adventure of this time,of glaze-jihadis and chanting shriekers and hate-filled plotters to hook and reel. It's still a good thing to move at will and work and make. What a great life. Forests give way to cities, cities give way to jungles and deserts, fish dissolve into fleeting foes with guns. Oh, it is a good life. It turns from the mountains of youth to the alien terrains of adulthood and new paths and new destinations and new targets and new returnings in the night. Every day a click in the mind and a pattern emerging where before there was only bliss and color and smells of pine and elm and birch, of fish in kreel, of wet dog and triumphant boy.

I look, and I laugh out loud.

Wishing you the best.

Dag.

Wow, that's really beautiful Dag! No matter how 'old and heavy' you may be, you have a brilliant mind - and that is something the jihadis will never have or understand. Happy and healthy 2008!
