Comment of the Week

Here's a great comment, hat tip The Merry Widow:

"Ignorance is lack of knowledge, stupidity is usually genetic, but foolishness is a refusal to learn! Ignorance can be cured by teaching, stupidity can be forgiven as it is something the person can't control, but foolishness is an obdurant and defiant refusal to look at reality!"

Psalm 14:1
The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.

So, I guess the opposite states would be educated, smart and wise.

Great picture, Eyes! Silly creature is about to find out the consequences of ignoring reality!

:>D

I was talking to a liberal the other day and he said "I believe in God, but not religion. God is whatever you believe in."

I said "Well you believe in facts and truth, right? Like you believe, for example, that one could test my DNA and prove that I am related to my mother. That's truth and reality."

He said "Yes - obviously". So I said "Well, maybe there is truth in a specific relgion. Don't you think God will judge you if you've chosen the wrong one?"

He said "Naw, there's so much confusion out there." I said "But maybe he will judge you on your effort to find the truth."

I think that might have rung a bell, because he hasn't really tried to find 'truth' but rather has lazily believed it doesn't matter... and he has a real chip on his shoulder (for what - I'm not sure),,,,

up front - sorry for the typos.

... anyhow, my point above is that I don't think God will forgive foolishness, and I like that TMW qualified stupidty as being the lack of capacity to learn and ignorance being the lack of opportunity to learn. Nobody in the USA can claim lack of opportunity to learn.....

And in the US, even the 'stupid' can be taught using specific techniques...they may not be able to absorb all that a 'normal' person can, but they can be taught something.
And if you truly want to amend a poor or disregarded education, there is plenty of opportunity...plus libraries!
But foolishness proves the premise that you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink!
