'Next' ~ Michael Crichton

Just finished reading Michael Crichton's 'Next' which is about gene therapy, transgenic animals, etc... As always, a real 'page turner'!

Designer kids... I can hardly wait. Oh, that's right... who needs kids, I'll just clone a "new and improved" me. So much for "humanity".

Ya Fj, But what's worse than that (if you can imagine) and where he kind of leaves the story is to create people/animals specifically designed to be slaves.... aka Brave New World. I can see that happening eventually, and largely because we haven't respected the place of animals. We were supposed to be their caretakers and yet we exploit them mercilessly (animal research, etc). So, in the end, I guess we'll get what we deserve.

I saw a strange episode on "The Dog Whisperer" where a vet clinic had rescued a dog who had been so abused his collar was ingrown into his neck. They rescued him and loved him, but he had developed a total hatred for the weight scale. Turns out the vet clinic was using him as a blood donor. They would track his weight, so they could take his blood. Ahhhh, no wonder he hated the scale. Cesar was able to break him of it, but I still wondered how these kind hearted people could put this poor creature through so much more pain after all he'd been through. Strange.

Makes you wonder when people will wake up and smell the coffee. All our "advances" are anything but.

Ya,,, Not all of know 'our place' in the grand scheme of things. We're not the Creator, we're part of the creation.

I've been a fan of Crichton's since Andromeda Strain. I haven't gotten a hold of this one yet.
