Explanation: NGC 2359 is a striking emission nebula with an impressive popular name - Thor's Helmet Sure, its suggestive winged appearance might lead some to refer to it as the "duck nebula", but if you were a nebula which name would you choose? By any name NGC 2359 is a bubble-like nebula some 30 light-years across, blown by energetic winds from an extremely hot star seen near the center and classified as a Wolf-Rayet star. Wolf-Rayet stars are rare massive blue giants which develop stellar winds with speeds of millions of kilometers per hour. Interactions with a nearby large molecular cloud are thought to have contributed to this nebula's more complex shape and curved bow-shock structures. NGC 2359 is about 15,000 light-years distant toward the constellation Canis Major.

Inconsistencies in Islam

-Insist that most of the scientific inventions were foretold in quran but no one ever invented anything out of the quran.

-Insist that muslims should enjoy all human rights and make infinite number of mosques in western countries but ban kafirs from Mecca and Medina. Preaching of any other religion is not allowed in any islamic country .

-Insist that women in islam are privileged in an unparalleled manner and their equality with men have never been achieved in history like it was done in islam, yet use every trick in the book to show that they lack the wisdom and fair judgment of men and consequently, men must reserve the right to beat them if they go astray, of course as a "last resort".

-Insist that islam is against slavery and then demonstrate how humanely mOhammad treated 'his slaves' as proof of it.

-Insist that islam "Is a complete way of life", not just a religion. But when others criticize things like the burka and honor killings, say that it's the fault of "culture", not islam.

-Insist that the quran is the word of god, is protected against corruption, and is unchanged since mOhammad's death, despite the existence of multiple versions and histories attesting to changes that were made

-Insist in demanding for more rights and perks from kafirs in kafir countries via freedom of religion, while condoning the killing of the kafirs in islamic countries and preventing them from following their religion.

-Insist that islam liberated women when no islamic society treats them fairly.

-Insist that islam will one day dominate the world when muslim countries are sinking deeper in poverty and soon will face massive starvation.

-Insist that mOhammad was a perfect role model and a Mercy of God among men and hide the fact that he lied, raped, tortured, killed, robbed and was a pedophile

-Insist that quran cannot be translated into any other tongue except Arabic, the language of God, when those who say this themselves do not know how to speak Arabic"

-Insist that islam is a "way of life." but never mind that this "way of life" is the way of life of a bunch of savage desert dwellers of the 7th century.

-Insist to subject oneself in full surrender to allah. Pray five times a day, fast for one month (sleep during day and feast and riot at night), read the quran every day, expend years learning the "arts" of defecating, copulating and cleanliness and other useless rituals and dream of conquering the infidels and taking their money to compensate the consequences of one's laziness and unproductiveness.

-Insist that terrorist attacks in the name of islam are not perpetrated by muslims, but the countries who are the victims of the terrorist attacks deserve it because of their foreign policy towards islamic countries.

-Insist on the evils of the Western culture and the virtues of islam but at the same time do everything possible to immigrate to the West in order to escape oppression of the islamic countries.

-Insist that muslims are persecuted in Israel, India, Philippines, Thailand, etc but continue expanding islamic terrorism around the world

-Insist that islam is a logical religion and everyone with pure motives will become a muslim while forgetting that their own ancestors were forced to accept islam and many were killed for resisting.

-Insist that only islam is the Absolute Truth and that every other religious book is corrupted and unreliable, but at the same time try to 'prove' islam by referring to the same "corrupted" sources that they decry.

-Insist that islam has no superstitions while there are prescribed prayers and rituals to combat black magic, witchcraft, sorcery, evil eyes, stone throwing jinns etc

-Insist that kissing a black stone, walking several times around the kaba, throwing stones at a pillar and using prayer-beads has nothing to do with superstition.The quran is the most horrible book ever written! It is filled with lies, threats, torture, errors, and absolute bullshit. It drives its message home with fear. Indeed, many muslims only came to be muslims by threats of death!I believe that muslims are the worst victims of islam, being imprisioned by it's blood-thirsty lies and ridiculous rituals. Jewish New Testament - David Stern

A while ago I bought 'The Jewish New Testament", as translated by David Stern and the Commentary that goes with it. If you want to really understand and enjoy the NT, I highly recommend both. Here's a little example, taken from Mark 3:5

Commentary: And sympathy for them. Greek sullupoumenos, found only here in the New Testament, means "grieving with someone." Such a mixture of two emotions, anger and at the same time sympathy, is a normal and appropriate reaction to people whose hearts display stoniness (Greek porosis; see Ro 11:7-8 and notes). Stoniness - dullness, insensitivity, intellectual blindness, stubbornness.

7 Steps to Islamization...

Certain things stick in your mind, but get muddled as time passes. If you ever saw "Blue Lagoon", it showed a good example of this. The kids remembered bits and pieces of old songs and stories. The above is something I was trying to remember from Basic training, and AC remembered it! We would march around sort of 'singing' this song... also the C-130 song from a previous post. When I first arrived at Basic, I was horrifed by the heat and 'in your face' behavior of the TIs, but by the end I had nothing but admiration for them (the TIs that is:>)).

btw, the mystery of the carnage at the park was solved. Mr Eyes examined the remains (being an ex-trapper/hunter) and said it was probably a local resident who enjoys the taste of fresh Nutrea. Actually, Farmer John guessed this also:>)

I know, I know... GROSS!!! Normally I have such nice pictures to post:>) I saw something really gross at the park one day about 2 weeks ago, but I couldn't tell what it was. I thought it looked like a big sausage, and some intestines, but didn't think much about it. Then, a week later I saw another such pile of what looked like intestines. Last night my girlfriend called me and said she had found a number of similar items at the park, so we decided to go investigate today and take pictures. These piles are in at least 5 locations, and vary in age from a day or two to several weeks old. The one shown is the most recent.

We called the parks department and they sent out a couple of guys to look at it. They were as baffled as we were, so he called for someone from the police department to come take a look. The police officer thought it looked like a coyote kill, but I don't think so. We determined (all 5 of us at this point), that each pile contains intestines and stomachs. No bones. Very little fur (just a few little tufts).

I think it's probably kids killing stray dogs and disemboweling them in some sort of satanic ritual. What do you think? I asked Mr Eyes, who used to trap coyotes and he said that there is no way a coyote would leave the intestines and stomach. That's their favorite part!!!

The Magnificent Tail of Comet McNaught

Explanation: Comet McNaught, the Great Comet of 2007, has grown a long and filamentary tail. The spectacular tail spreads across the sky and is visible to Southern Hemisphere observers just after sunset. The head of the comet remains quite bright and easily visible to even city observers without any optical aide. The amazing tail is visible on long exposures and even to the unaided eye from a dark location. Reports even have the tail visible just above the horizon after sunset for many northern observers as well. Comet McNaught, estimated at magnitude -2 (minus two), was caught by the comet's discoverer in the above image just after sunset last Friday from Siding Spring Observatory in Australia. Comet McNaught, the brightest comet in decades, is now fading as it moves further into southern skies and away from the Sun and Earth.

Unveiling Islam - Ergun and Emir Caner

I'm reading "Unveiling Islam" by Ergun and Emir Caner, ex-muslims. It is written to try to help people understand islam, from a muslim point of view. Personally, I prefer the Walid Shoebat book, but this one is good too. Particularly good for liberals, who don't like to ruffle feathers. I thought this section was good on "The Sanctity of Religious Liberty":

God's Love Toward a Radical Muslim

I found an interesting article about a muslim who started reading the Bible, and then converted to Christianity. He made some interesting points:

In the Quran it says that some revelations are abolished or forgotten(Surah Al-Baqara 2:106 ). What does that mean? In fact it's exactly the opposite in the Bible:

In the Torah, Numbers 23:19,"God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind."

And in Zabur (Psalms) 31:5,"Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth."

And in Injeel (the Gospel of John) 17:17,"Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth."
Never did I find a single verse in the Bible saying that God lies or that He changes His verses and leads people astray.

Also, why was Jesus Christ faultless and without sin, whereas Mohammad was touched by Satan and lead a sinful life? Many times in the Quran, Mohammad is reminded of repenting his sins. Every Muslim who reads the Quran with understanding knows it very well.

Southern Comet

Explanation: After a remarkable performance in the northern hemisphere, the brightest comet in decades is now showing off in the south. Recorded during evening twilight on January 17, this view features the bright coma and gorgeous, sweeping tail of Comet McNaught (c/2006 P1) over Lake Horowhenua in Levin, a small town on New Zealand's North Island. Astronomer Noel Munford reports that the five second long digital camera exposure comes close to capturing the visual appearance of the comet in a sky coloured by smoke from distant brush fires in Australia. Discovered last summer by R. H. McNaught (Siding Spring Survey), the comet grew impressively bright in early January and has even been sighted in full daylight. In the coming days Comet McNaught will continue to move south, for now a spectacle in southern skies as it heads for the outer solar system.

America’s brand-new F-35 Lightning II is currently undergoing a series of tests over Fort Worth, Texas. The third flight on Wednesday tested the aircraft at 23,000 feet, the highest altitude the aircraft has ever been. And this week, Lockheed Martin’s chief test pilot Jon Beesley — the only man on the planet to have flown the F-35 — plans to take the jet even higher.

The F-35 is not the first fighter ever tested by Beesley, a 56-year-old former Air Force officer and grandfather of six. He also is the second man in the world to fly the Air Force’s latest air supremacy fighter, the F-22 Raptor (designed to replace the F-15 Eagle). And he was one of the first to fly the now aging F-117 Nighthawk (the world’s “first operational stealth aircraft”).

Like the Raptor and the Nighthawk, the F-35 is a stealth fighter. But it is the first-ever aircraft designed to replace four existing aircraft from three services. People from your homelands, professing to be Muslims, have been attacking and killing my fellow citizens and our friends for more than 20 years now. I don't fully understand their grievances and hate but I know that nothing can justify the inhumanity of their attacks.

On September 11, 2001, nineteen ARAB-MUSLIMS hijacked four jetliners in my country. They cut the throats of women in front of children and brutally stabbed to death others. They took control of those planes and crashed them into buildings killing thousands of proud fathers, loving sons, wise grandparents, elegant daughters, best friends, favorite coaches, fearless public servants, and children's mothers. The Palestinians celebrated; the Iraqis were overjoyed, as was most of the Arab world.

So I notice you now. I don't want to be worried. I don't want to be consumed by the same rage and hate and prejudice that has destroyed the soul of these terrorists. But I need your help. As a rational American, trying to protect my country and family in an irrational and unsafe world, I must know how to tell the difference between you and the Arab/Muslim terrorist.

How do I differentiate between the true Arab/Muslim-Americans and the Arab/Muslims in our communities who are attending our schools, enjoying our parks, and living in OUR communities under the protection of OUR Constitution while they plot the next attack that will slaughter these same good neighbors and children? The events of September 11th changed the answer. It is not my responsibility to determine which of you embraces our great country, with ALL of its religions, with ALL of its different citizens, with all of its faults. It is time for every Arab/Muslim in this country to determine it for me. I want to know, I demand to know, and I have a right to know whether or not you love America. Do you pledge allegiance to its flag? Do you proudly display it in front of your house, or on your car?

Do you pray in your many daily prayers that your Allah will bless this nation, that he will protect and prosper it? Or do you pray that your Allah will destroy it in one of your "Jihads"?

Are you thankful for the freedom that only this nation affords? A freedom that was paid for by the blood of hundreds of thousands of patriots who gave their lives for this country? Are you willing to preserve this freedom by paying the ultimate sacrifice? Do you love America? If this is your commitment, then I need YOU to start letting ME know about it.

Your Muslim leaders in this nation should be flooding the media at this time with hard facts on your faith, and what hard actions you are taking as a community and as a religion to protect the United States of America. Please, no more benign overtures of regret for the deaths of the innocent because I worry about who you regard as innocent.

No more benign overtures of condemnation for the unprovoked attacks because I worry about what is unprovoked to you. I am not interested in any more sympathy..I am only interested in action.

What will you do for America-- our great country-- at this time of crisis, at this time of war?

I want to see Arab-Muslims waving the AMERICAN flag in the streets. I want to hear you chanting "Allah Bless America " I want to see young Arab/Muslim men enlisting in the military. I want to see a commitment of money, time, and emotion to the victims of this butchering and to this nation as a whole. The FBI has a list of over 400 people they want to talk to regarding the World Trade Center attack. Many of these people live and socialize in Muslim communities. You know them. You know where they are.
Hand them over to us, now! But I have seen little even approaching this sort of action. Instead I have seen an already closed and secretive community close even tighter. You have disappeared from the streets. You have posted armed security guards at your facilities. You have threatened lawsuits. You have screamed for protection from reprisals.

The very few Arab/Muslim representatives that HAVE appeared in the media were defensive and equivocating. They seemed more concerned with making sure that the United States proves who was responsible before taking action. They seemed more concerned with protecting their fellow Muslims from violence directed toward them in the United States and abroad than they did with supporting our country and denouncing "leaders" like Khadafi, Hussein, Farrakhan, and Arafat. If the true teachings of Islam proclaim tolerance and peace and love for all people then I want chapter and verse from the Quran and statements from popular Muslim leaders to back it up. What good is it if the teachings in the Quran are good and pure and true when your "leaders" are teaching fanatical interpretations, terrorism, and intolerance?

It matters little how good Islam SHOULD BE if large numbers of the world's Muslims interpret the teachings of Mohammed incorrectly and adhere to a degenerative form of the religion. A form that has been demonstrated to us over and over again. A form whose structure is built upon a foundation of violence, death, and suicide. A form whose members are recruited from the prisons around the world. A form whose members (some as young as five years old) are seen day after day, week in and week out, year after year, marching in the streets around the world, burning effigies of our presidents, burning the American flag, shooting weapons into the air. A form whose members convert from a peaceful religion, only to take up arms against the United States of America, the country of their birth. A form whose rules are so twisted that their traveling members refuse to show their faces at airport security checkpoints, in the name of Islam. Do you and your fellow Muslims hate us because our women proudly show their faces in public rather than cover up like a shameful whore? Do you and your fellow Muslims hate us because we drink wine with dinner, or celebrate Christmas? Do you and your fellow Muslims hate us because we have befriended Israel, the ONLY civilized democratic nation in the entire Middle East?

And if you and your fellow Muslims hate us, then why in the world are you even here? Are you here to take our money? Are you here to undermine our peace and stability? Are you here to destroy us? If so, I want you to leave. I want you to go back to your desert sandpit where women are treated like rats and dogs. I want you to take your religion, your friends, and your family back to your Islamic extremists, and STAY THERE! We will NEVER give in to your influence, your retarded mentality, your twisted, violent, intolerant religion.

We will NEVER allow the attacks of September 11th, or any others for that matter, to take away that which is so precious to us: Our rights under the greatest Constitution in the world. I want to know where every Arab/Muslim in this country stands and I think it is my right and the right of every true citizen of this country to demand it. A right paid for by the blood of thousands of my brothers and sisters who died protecting the very constitution that is protecting you and your family. I am pleading with you to let me know. I want you here as my brother, my neighbor, my friend, as a fellow American. But there can be no gray areas or ambivalence regarding your allegiance and it is up to YOU, to show ME, where YOU stand. Until then .you worry me!"

Someone also said once that they vote with the US at the UN 91% of the time. The next closest country is Australia, at 58%. Obviously #9 and #10 can be grasped by even the simplest fool, and are not based on theology, so I usually use them when debating non-Christians (especially #10 because of the tons of examples to prove that particular point).

Explanation: Bright Comet McNaught (C/2006 P1) graced the twilight this week, seen by many and often described with superlatives. Watching the skies over Krakow, Poland, Andrzej Sawow recorded this view on Wednesday - with an ordinary handheld digital camera. He notes that "... astronomy is really for everyone who loves to look at the night sky. And fortunately (sometimes) the sky generously rewards its observer". Now very close to the Sun, Comet McNaught (along with Mercury) is visible in realtime images from the SOHO spacecraft. Otherwise, skywatchers will find the comet hard to see this weekend. But southern hemisphere observers could be rewarded next week as Comet McNaught begins to climb higher in southern skies.

The Eagle Nebula in Infrared

Explanation: In visible light, the whole thing looks like an eagle. The region was captured recently in unprecedented detail in infrared light by the robotic orbiting Spitzer Space Telescope (SSC). Shown above, the infrared image allows observers to peer through normally opaque dust and so better capture the full complexity of the Eagle Nebula star forming region. In particular, the three famous pillars near the image center are seen bathed in dust likely warmed by a supernova explosion. The warm dust is digitally assigned the false color of red. Also visible, near the bottom of the image, is ten light-year long pillar sometimes dubbed the Fairy of Eagle Nebula. The greater Eagle emission nebula, tagged M16, lies about 6500 light years away, spans about 20 light-years, and is visible with binoculars toward the constellation of Serpens.

NGC 602 and Beyond

Explanation: Near the outskirts of the Small Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy some 200 thousand light-years distant, lies 5 million year young star cluster NGC 602. Surrounded by natal gas and dust, NGC 602 is featured in this stunning Hubble image of the region. Fantastic ridges and swept back shapes strongly suggest that energetic radiation and shock waves from NGC 602's massive young stars have eroded the dusty material and triggered a progression of star formation moving away from the cluster's center. At the estimated distance of the Small Magellanic Cloud, the picture spans about 200 light-years, but a tantalizing assortment of background galaxies are also visible in the sharp Hubble view. The background galaxies are hundreds of millions of light-years or more beyond NGC 602.

McNaught Now Brightest Comet in Decades

Explanation: The brightest comet in decades is unexpectedly now visible. The most optimistic predictions have Comet McNaught (C/2006 P1) shortly becoming one of the brightest comets of the past century. For the next few days, its short tail and bright coma can be spotted with the unaided eye close to the Sun and near the horizon in both evening and morning skies. This dramatic picture of the comet shining through cloudy skies was taken near sunset on January 7 from Bad Mergentheim, Germany.

A superbug that causes infections from large, boil-like lesions to hemorrhagic pneumonia and, in rare cases, flesh-eating disease is poised to "emerge in force" across Canada, a new report warns. While the prospect of a flu pandemic has governments scrambling to develop emergency plans, an epidemic of community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or CA-MRSA, is raging in the U.S. and beginning to entrench itself here, infectious disease experts report today in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

In the U.S., clusters have been reported in groups from NFL players to toddlers in day care.
In Canada, outbreaks have occurred in Alberta, B.C., Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. The Calgary Health Region sees between 40 and 70 cases per month. Infections are also being reported in Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City. Doctors are now investigating the possible transmission of the community-acquired staph strain among a small group of Calgary hospital patients, which would be one of the first cases of CA-MRSA being transmitted between hospital patients.

"Not a day goes by where I'm in clinic that I'm not pulling out a scalpel to drain one of these things," says Dr. John Conly, co-author of the report and an infectious disease specialist and professor of medicine at the University of Calgary.

"We're seeing far too many of them." The organism is an "old foe with new fangs," a pathogen that is virulent, drug-resistant and has an uncanny ability to "disseminate at large," according to the CMAJ report. So far, its prevalence is thought to be low, but rising in most parts of the country.

"Front-line physicians need to be aware of the increasing prevalence and the potential severity of CA-MRSA infection," the researchers write. The germ killed a healthy 30-year-old Calgary man and a three-month-old baby in Toronto in 2005. Both died of necrotizing pneumonia, or lung abscesses. The infection begins with what looks like a spider bite, a red, very tender area that rises up and comes to a head just like a small boil. If not treated promptly, the lesions can develop into large, spreading abscesses in the soft tissues that can grow to the size of a baseball "or even a grapefruit in some settings," Conly said in an interview. People develop fever and flu-like symptoms. In some cases, MRSA can cause bleeding in the lungs.

"For some reason, there are people who are predisposed to develop what looks like standard pneumonia and very quickly they begin to cough up blood," Conly said. Previously confined to hospital patients, the staph infection is now occurring in healthy people. The community strain "doesn't carry as much genetic baggage" as the hospital strain and is sensitive to other antibiotics, Conly says.

"But it seems to have a propensity to cause very large abscesses in the soft tissues with copious drainage, and seems to spread much more readily than the hospital strain has done."
It's also moving out of the traditional risk groups, such as intravenous drug users, the homeless, First Nations, the military and people infected with HIV.

The staph infection is spread by physical contact, through open cuts and scrapes, poor hygiene and sharing personal items, such as soap, towels, creams, razors and clothes.
Athletes are particularly prone: It has affected college and high-school-aged football players, wrestlers and rugby players. A Miami Dolphins football player lost a season because of a severe MRSA infection. The Canadian Committee on Antibiotic Resistance and the Coaching Association of Canada has launched a campaign to educate coaches, parents and athletes about staph infections.

Pets, too, can be reservoirs for infection. New Canadian guidelines to control MRSA recommend regular hand washing, covering any draining skin lesion and not sharing potentially contaminated personal articles. Doctors are urged to report suspected outbreak to public health authorities and to limit the use of antibiotics, because their over-use drives resistance.
The guidelines recommend alcohol-based hand sanitizers in sports facilities where there are no sinks, showering after every game or practice, avoiding sharing towels or equipment, cleaning equipment regularly, ideally after every use. Anyone with an open sore should avoid contact sports, and should stay away from common whirlpools or saunas. Children with open or infected sores should also be kept away from day care or school until they're treated.

Hate speech? Incitement to violence? Sounds like it to us, but a knowledgeable Muslim would have to disagree. Why would Muslims not consider this to be hate speech? How is it that we can post these quotes with full certainty that CAIR won't be contacting the media (or Congress) with wild-eyed accusations of Islamophobia? Well, for one thing, we don’t actually agree with any of these statements, of course. But the real reason is that Muslims themselves honestly believe these quotes to be the literal, eternal word of Allah. In fact, CAIR is promoting this hate speech on their own website! I’m reading “Why I left jihad” by Walid Shoebat. He was a terrorist from the West Bank who bombed a Bank near Bethlehem, amongst other things. I thought it would be interesting to read something from the perspective of an ex-Islamic terrorist. Check this out:

I was there at the mosques, the Friday Madrassa, listening to sermons by Ikrima Sabri, tapes by Abdul Hamid Kishk. They taught only the destruction of the Jews and hatred of the West. To kill, to maim, to hate, these were all the same as getting an “A” on your report card.

What the West does not understand about Islamism is that jihad has stages. If Muslims have the upper hand, then jihad is waged by force. If Muslims do not have the upper hand, then jihad is waged through financial and political means. Since Muslims do not have the upper hand in America or Europe, they talk about peace in front of you while supporting Hamas and Hezbollah in the back room. In Islam, conceding to peace means that the Islamic Umma, nation, is weak. So as soon as Islam becomes the dominating force, it switches into war gear.”

This all jives with the “peaceful” verses in the Koran being written in Mecca when mohammed was the under-dog, and then the violent verses being written when he had taken over by force in Medina.

NGC 6960: The Witch's Broom Nebula

Explanation: Ten thousand years ago, before the dawn of recorded human history, a new light must suddenly have appeared in the night sky and faded after a few weeks. Today we know this light was an exploding star and record the colorful expanding cloud as the Veil Nebula. Pictured above is the west end of the Veil Nebula known technically as NGC 6960 but less formally as the Witch's Broom Nebula. The rampaging gas gains its colors by impacting and exciting existing nearby gas. The supernova remnant lies about 1400 light-years away towards the constellation of Cygnus. This Witch's Broom actually spans over three times the angular size of the full Moon. The bright star 52 Cygnus is visible with the unaided eye from a dark location but unrelated to the ancient supernova.
